INNOVIZZ.COM/CLINICAL · SAS VIYA MIGRATION AND SAS ESTATE OPTIMIZATION · LSAF TO CLINICAL ACCELERATION

The SAS estate your submissions run on,
modernized without disrupting a single active study.

SAS 9.4 to Viya migration with equivalence proven program by program; LSAF to SAS Clinical Acceleration with audit-trail continuity; and optimization of the 9.4 estate you are keeping: Grid tuning, a governed macro library, CDISC checks in the pipeline, EDC automation, monitoring and disaster recovery. Delivered with your engineering, IT and validation teams, under Part 11 and GAMP 5 continuity, with nothing moving to production before your validation lead accepts the equivalence report.

THE PROBLEM, AS SAS ADMINISTRATORS DESCRIBE IT

The estate works, which is exactly why nobody wants to touch it

PATTERN 01 · THE MACRO LIBRARY
Fifteen years of macros, three of them understood

The global library runs every study and nobody alive wrote most of it. A Viya migration that breaks one macro breaks every study at once, so the migration never starts.

PATTERN 02 · THE PARALLEL ESTATE
Viya was bought and 9.4 still runs everything

The licence is paid, the pilot ran, and production stayed where it was because equivalence was never proven to the validation lead. Two estates, one team, double the cost.

PATTERN 03 · THE REPOSITORY
LSAF is end of life and the audit trail is in it

The move to Clinical Acceleration is on the roadmap. The question nobody has answered is how the audit trail, the job history and the repository structure survive the move in a form an inspector accepts.

SAS VIYA IMPLEMENTATION

Migration readiness and modernization with equivalence proven, not assumed

Discovery two to eight weeks; architect and pilot eight to sixteen; production sixteen to twenty-eight. Hybrid 9.4 and Viya coexistence is designed in, not bolted on.

AUDIT
9.4 estate audit

Code, macros, Grid topology, batch schedules and dependencies inventoried and risk-weighted. The output is a roadmap that says what migrates first, what coexists and what retires.

ARCHITECTURE
CAS architecture on Azure or AWS

Designed in your tenancy with GxP controls: identity, segregation, logging, backup, change control. The reference architecture is a deliverable you own.

MODERNIZATION
Macro modernization for the CAS engine

Macros adapted for CAS where it pays and left on the compute server where it does not, each with an equivalence test against its 9.4 result.

EQUIVALENCE
An equivalence report per migrated program

Same inputs, both engines, compared output by output. The report is what your validation lead signs before cut-over. Nothing moves without it.

CONTINUITY
Part 11 and GAMP 5 continuity

IQ, OQ and PQ framework for the new estate, mapped to your existing validation state, so the inspector sees one continuous record.

ENABLEMENT
Role-specific enablement

Programmers, administrators and validation staff trained on what changed for them, with the runbooks they will actually use.

LSAF TO SAS CLINICAL ACCELERATION

The repository moves with its history

Repository structure, job execution, audit-trail continuity and dataset parity validated before cut-over, so the study record is as inspectable after the move as before it.

STRUCTURE
Repository and permission mapping

Folders, roles and workflows mapped from LSAF to Clinical Acceleration with the differences documented and approved by your QA lead before migration.

EXECUTION
Job execution parity

Scheduled and on-demand jobs re-run on the new platform with results compared to LSAF, including logs and manifest content.

AUDIT TRAIL
Continuity you can show an inspector

The LSAF audit history is preserved and referenced from the new repository; the cut-over itself is recorded as a controlled event with its own evidence.

SAS ECOSYSTEM OPTIMIZATION

For the 9.4 estate you are keeping

Six pillars for the SAS estate behind submissions. Ecosystem audit two to six weeks; architecture and build six to fourteen; validation and deploy four to ten; optimize retainer, limited availability.

PILLAR 01
Infrastructure and Grid tuning

Queue design, workload balancing, I/O and storage layout measured against your batch windows, with the baseline recorded before and after.

PILLAR 02
A version-controlled global macro library

Consolidated, documented, tested and released under change control, with a change record per macro. The library most teams wish they had built in year one.

PILLAR 03
Continuous CDISC checks

Pinnacle 21 eCLI in the pipeline, so conformance findings arrive while the programmer still remembers the dataset.

PILLAR 04
Automated EDC pipelines

Scheduled transfers from RAVE, Veeva or Oracle into the SAS estate with audit trails, reconciliation and alerts on a failed load.

PILLAR 05
Environment health monitoring

Dashboards for the administrator: queue depth, failed jobs, disk, licence use, with thresholds your team sets.

PILLAR 06
Disaster recovery with a defined RTO

A tested runbook, not a policy document. Recovery is rehearsed and the rehearsal is evidence.

HOW IT RUNS

Discovery, pilot, production, each with its own acceptance

01
Discovery

Two to eight weeks. Inventory, dependencies, validation state, regulatory obligations and the business calendar. The output is a risk-weighted roadmap with the first pilot scoped.

You receive: The roadmap, the inventory, the pilot scope and the acceptance criteria for it.
02
Architect and pilot

Eight to sixteen weeks. The reference architecture is built in your tenancy and a representative set of programs is migrated with equivalence reports and benchmarks. Your validation lead reviews the first reports before scale-up is approved.

You receive: The reference architecture, the pilot migration with benchmarks, equivalence reports, the coexistence plan.
03
Production

Sixteen to twenty-eight weeks. Programs migrate in waves aligned to study milestones; each wave carries its equivalence evidence and is accepted before the next. 9.4 coexistence is maintained for as long as the plan says.

You receive: Migrated programs with an equivalence report each, the validation package, enablement delivered, the runbooks.
THE FOUR RULES

Platform work runs under the same four rules

Including the rule that a person accepts, in writing, before anything reaches production.

RULE 01
Deterministic first

Rules settle every case they can. A model is consulted only for the residual the rules cannot decide, and its output passes through the same rules before anyone sees it.

RULE 02
Inside your perimeter

Processing runs in your environment, under your identity system. Nothing potentially unblinding reaches an outside model. The data flow diagram is available under NDA before kickoff.

RULE 03
A named reviewer approves

Every output that matters is accepted by a person on your side whose name is on the record. Model output never writes a finding into a deliverable on its own.

RULE 04
Evidence travels with the work

Inputs, versions, tool events and decisions are logged as they happen, so the packet an auditor asks for exists before the audit does.

THE EXCHANGE

What you provide, what you receive, who signs

YOU PROVIDE

The program inventory, both environments, regulatory obligations, the current validation state, server and Grid access, the macro inventory, batch schedules, current compliance gaps.

YOU RECEIVE

A risk-weighted roadmap, a pilot migration with benchmarks, migrated programs with an equivalence report each, the coexistence plan, the validation package, a tuned environment, a consolidated validated macro framework, CDISC pipeline, EDC integration, monitoring dashboards, DR runbook, IQ/OQ/PQ evidence.

SIGN-OFF

Equivalence accepted by your validation lead before cut-over; nothing moves to production without it. Your SAS administrator and validation lead accept each optimization pillar; the macro library ships with a change record.

This is the right engagement when

✓Viya is licensed and production is still on 9.4 because equivalence was never proven.
✓LSAF retirement is on the roadmap and audit-trail continuity is the open question.
✓The global macro library is undocumented and every change is a risk to every study.
✓Batch windows are growing, Grid queues are tuned by folklore, and recovery has never been rehearsed.
✓Your validation lead needs to sign something, and you want that something to exist.

It is not the right engagement when

✕The plan is to migrate everything in one cut-over before a submission. We will say so and propose waves.
✕There is no validation function to accept the equivalence reports. The method depends on that acceptance.
✕The estate is outside your control, for example wholly CRO-hosted with no access. Discovery cannot run.
✕The ask is licence procurement or a reseller relationship. We do not sell licences.

A thirty-minute technical conversation is enough to tell you which path, if any, applies.

QUESTIONS BIOMETRICS LEADS ASK FIRST

Before you decide

The questions that come up in the first technical conversation, answered the way we answer them on a call.

Will active studies be disrupted?

No. Migration runs in waves aligned to study milestones, 9.4 keeps running for as long as the coexistence plan says, and nothing moves to production until your validation lead accepts the equivalence report for that wave.

What does an equivalence report contain?

The program, its inputs and versions on both engines, the output comparison with tolerances, any accepted differences with their reasons, and the signature of the validation lead who accepted it. One per migrated program.

Do we have to move to the cloud?

No. The CAS architecture is designed for Azure or AWS in your tenancy where that is your direction, and on premise where it is not. The validation approach is the same.

Can you optimize 9.4 without a Viya plan?

Yes. SAS Ecosystem Optimization is a standalone engagement for the estate you are keeping. Many sponsors run it first and decide about Viya with a documented estate in hand.

Who does the work?

INNOVIZZ with your engineering, IT and validation teams. Architecture, code modernization and training are delivered jointly so the knowledge stays with you. We do not take over administration of your estate.

How is it priced?

Against a written statement of work with deliverables, milestones and acceptance criteria, after discovery. No figure before the scope is understood.
